What the map does, why it runs in a browser after Apple pulled the iOS app, and the 2026 Match Group stake.

Quick Verdict
Very Good
Sniffies is a map-first cruising site for gay, bi and curious men, run by Sniffies, LLC and partly backed by Match Group since April 2026.
It suits men who want a free, no-install, real-time view of who is nearby, and it can be used without an account.
It is not a dating site, it does not verify users, and it documents no two-factor login, so the safety groundwork is left to you. Its Plus price is shown only at checkout and sales are final.
Rated 7.2 out of 10 on documents and third-party reporting.

Sniffies is a real-time, map-based cruising site for gay, bi and curious men, run by Sniffies, LLC, a Delaware company. It works in a web browser and can be entered without an account through its "Use Anonymously" option.
The decisive caveat: it does not verify who its users are, and Match Group took a minority stake in April 2026. This Sniffies review is research-based and rates it 7.2 out of 10: distinctive and mostly free, but with thin safety documentation.

Sniffies Review Summary
| What we score | Score | Why this score |
|---|---|---|
| Features | 7.8 | Map, anonymous entry, chat and Plus extras are documented or reported; not checked by direct use (entry page, Wikipedia). |
| Pricing | 7.0 | A usable free tier is documented, but ads, a hidden Plus price and final-sale terms hold the score back (terms of service). |
| Usability | 8.0 | Browser-first with no install and a map model reviewers describe as distinctive; not checked by direct use (Out, entry page). |
| Safety | 6.0 | Terms disclaim user verification and no 2FA is documented, offset by approximate-only location and no found breach (terms, privacy policy). |
| Content | 7.0 | Cruising-focused with consent rules for uploaded content; user numbers are investor-reported at about 3M monthly (Match Group release). |
| Overall | 7.2 | Very Good — our editorial judgement, informed by the five scores above. How we score |

How the Map Model Works
Sniffies replaces the usual grid of nearby profiles with an interactive map. Match Group's April 2026 announcement describes it as a real-time, map-based cruising experience for non-heterosexual men.
The same release puts the service at about 3 million monthly active users and more than 20 million messages a day. Those are figures from an investor, not independently confirmed.
The design suits quick, in-the-moment meetups rather than long conversations. A map view also tends to look thin where few users are online, which is a limit of any location-based product.
The entry screen offers Login, Sign up or "Use Anonymously", so a visitor can look around before creating an account. Messaging and appearing on the map to others normally need a profile.
What Is Free and What Sniffies Plus Adds
The free version is supported by ads. Sniffies' terms say some services, including Sniffies Plus, "might be available only through creating an account and paying a fee".
Wikipedia's reporting lists Plus as removing ads and adding group hosting, chat pinning and finer blocking controls. Treat that as reported rather than confirmed by the operator.
The Plus price is not published in the terms or on the pages checked. Third-party sites quote several conflicting figures, so none are printed here. The price appears at checkout, and the terms say there is no price protection.
Billing Terms to Know
- Subscriptions "automatically renew for additional prepaid periods" until cancelled.
- The terms say sales are final and payments non-refundable, with a 3-day cancellation right in a short list of US states.
- The terms do not describe an account deletion procedure in detail; privacy requests go to the address in the privacy policy.
The iOS App That Apple Removed
Sniffies launched an iOS app in the US and Canada in March 2025, with a default "Safer Work Mode" that blurs explicit images. Apple removed it from the App Store in May 2025.
Sniffies attributed the removal to content restrictions, according to Out magazine's editor's note. The App Store listing returned a not-found page in the US, Canada and UK when checked.
No Google Play listing was found. Today the practical route is the website, which can be added to a phone home screen as a web app.
Will Sniffies Change Under Match Group?
On 27 April 2026 Match Group, the owner of Tinder and Hinge, announced a $100 million minority investment in Sniffies with an option to acquire the remaining equity later. The release says Sniffies "will continue to operate independently and remain founder-led".
The release cites Match's earlier path with Hinge, which it invested in during 2017 and acquired in late 2018. It does not promise the same outcome here.
LGBTQ press covered a wave of user unease about the deal, including Queerty on 28 April 2026. This review did not find any announced change to the product, pricing or privacy terms, and nothing here predicts one.
Privacy, Location and Safety
The privacy policy says Sniffies uses approximate location and does not collect "precise location data (such as GPS data)" from the device. That limits how exactly a pin can place someone, though a dense neighbourhood can still narrow it down.
Data is normally kept for up to 7 years for legal reasons, and users can request deletion subject to legal exceptions. Advertisers and analytics firms use their own tracking technologies, which can be opted out of through browser settings or by contacting the company.
The terms state that Sniffies does not run criminal background checks or verify user information. People who upload content showing others must keep age and consent records for them.
No two-factor login is documented, and no breach, regulator action or lawsuit was found. Meeting strangers is a personal risk the platform leaves to you: choose public first meetings, tell someone, and follow safer-sex practice.
How It Compares With Grid Apps
Sniffies sits in the same part of the market as the apps below, but its map and browser-first model set it apart. Rival details come from fact sheets compiled for this site in Oct 2026.
| Platform | Main interface | Where it runs | Money model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sniffies | Live map | Web (iOS app removed) | Free with ads; Plus price at checkout |
| Grindr | Proximity grid | iOS, Android, web for paying users | Free with ads; paid tiers |
| Feeld | Profile cards | iOS, Android | Free plus Majestic |
| Pure | Anonymous, expiring chats | iOS, Android, web | Subscription to chat |

How This Review Was Researched
This review rests on documents checked in Oct 2026: Sniffies' terms of service and privacy policy, its entry page, Match Group's investor release, Out magazine's coverage of the iOS app, and app-store listings.
No account was created, no Sniffies Plus subscription was bought and the product was not used directly.
Sub-scores therefore reflect documented features and third-party reporting, so confidence is lower than it would be for a product that was used directly. Volatile details such as the Plus price were not published on the pages reviewed.
