Cougar Life Review 2026: $49.99 Memberships, Pay-Per-Message Credits, and Fake-Profile Complaints

Quick Verdict
Average
Cougar Life is a niche age-gap dating site best for older women and younger men who specifically want that pairing and accept paying to start conversations.
Its strengths are a clear niche, a 14-day pro-rated refund window in the terms, optional two-factor login and a deletion option.
Its biggest weaknesses are credit and membership costs that add up quickly, no documented ID or photo verification, a low Trustpilot score driven by fake-profile complaints and a corporate history tied to the Ashley Madison breach.
For general dating, or for anyone who wants flat predictable pricing, it is poor value.

Cougar Life is an age-gap dating site for older women and younger men. The terms name Cougar Life Inc. (Canada) and CL Media Inc. (US), both with a Toronto mailing address. The site says it has run since 2008.
It is not a flat-fee subscription site. Starting conversations is paid for with credits or a membership, and women are described as messaging for free.
This Cougar Life review is research-based and rates it 5.7 out of 10: a clear niche with high effective costs and weak trust signals.

How Cougar Life Charges: Credits, Not a Flat Fee
The old version of this review called Cougar Life a credit-free subscription site. That was wrong. The terms say users can buy credit packages, and that credits or subscriptions are needed in some jurisdictions to start communication with other members.
The US App Store listing says women can start conversations at no charge, while messaging typically requires credits. That is the company's own listing text.
What the Prices Are
The US App Store lists credit packages from $13.99 to $22.99, a $49.99 monthly membership, a $99.99 quarterly membership and a $29.99 priority listing. The listing does not show how many credits each pack holds.
Third-party reviewer DatingScout reports web packs of 100 credits for $29.99, 500 for $99.99 and 1,000 for $149.99. That works out at roughly $0.15 to $0.30 per credit. Treat these as reported, since the official web prices sit behind sign-up.
App Store reviewers complain about cost, with one quoting "$10 per message". That is user opinion, not a published price, and the cost per message depends on how many credits an action uses.
Refunds, Auto-Renewal and Cancelling
The terms (effective 27 August 2025) say Cougar Life "automatically renews all paid subscriptions (excluding credits unless you have expressly opted-in)". You must cancel before the renewal date to stop billing.
Within 14 days of purchase you may cancel for any reason and receive a pro-rated refund. For credits, the refund is the price paid minus the value of credits already used.
After 14 days, purchases including credits and subscriptions are non-refundable except where the company breached the terms. DatingScout reports a shorter 3-day window and 30-day credit expiry; the terms themselves state 14 days, so use that figure and check at checkout.
Who Runs Cougar Life, and the Ashley Madison Link
The terms and privacy policy name Cougar Life Inc. for Canadian users and CL Media Inc. for US users. Both use the same Toronto PO box. Neither document mentions another brand.
In July 2015 press coverage reported that Cougar Life and Established Men, then owned by the same parent as Ashley Madison, also had data compromised in the attack. DatingScout says Cougar Life "was never hacked", so the extent of any exposure is disputed.
That parent later renamed itself and now operates Ashley Madison as Ruby Life Inc. DatingScout lists Ruby Life Inc. as Cougar Life's operator, but the official documents do not say so, so current common ownership is reported rather than confirmed.
The company's record on Ashley Madison matters for context. The FTC and 13 states announced a $1.6 million settlement in December 2016 over fake profiles and misleading security claims on that site. The FTC release does not mention Cougar Life.
See the Ashley Madison review for that history in full.
Verification, Privacy and Deleting Your Account
The terms state: "WE DO NOT PERFORM CRIMINAL OR ANY OTHER FORM OF BACKGROUND CHECKS ON OUR USERS OR MEMBERS". No ID or selfie verification badge is described in the documents checked. DatingScout calls email verification optional.
The privacy policy (effective 18 November 2025) says it does not "share, give, rent or sell" personal data to third parties beyond service providers, payment processors and legal requests.
It also lists analytics and advertising tools and says it collects location data to show nearby members.
Two-factor login is optional through an authentication app. The policy says AI scans images for inappropriate content, such as photos that appear to be of minors. It does not describe end-to-end encryption.
The terms offer two choices: deactivation, which hides your profile but keeps messages, or full deletion. Full deletion removes most personal data within 48 hours, though some records can be kept for up to six months.
Inactive accounts are deleted automatically after 18 months, and purchase records are kept for six months for chargeback handling.
What Users Say: Fake Profiles and Cost
Third-party sentiment is poor. Trustpilot shows a 2.2 out of 5 score from 14 reviews as of 8 Oct 2026, with 65% at one star, and the profile is unclaimed by the company. Another snapshot of the page showed 2.5, so the sample is small.
The recurring complaints are fake profiles, bots, high credit costs and unexplained suspensions. DatingScout also reports many fake profiles, which moderators suspend after reports.
The iOS app is rated 4.2 out of 5 from 1.7K ratings, but its reviews also cite fake profiles and expensive messaging. These are user reports, not verified findings.
Who Cougar Life Suits, and Who Should Skip It
It suits adults who specifically want age-gap dating and are comfortable paying to initiate messages. Because women reportedly message free, the cost falls mainly on men.
It does not suit anyone who wants predictable monthly spending, strong identity assurance or a mainstream pool. A niche site also thins out fast outside large cities, though no member count was published to check.
Women who want to try it face lower costs if the free-messaging text holds, but the same fake-profile reports apply to them. Anyone paying should buy the smallest option first and note the 14-day refund window.
How the 5.7 Score Breaks Down
The score rests on documented features and third-party consensus, so confidence is lower than for a tested product. Pricing and content score lowest because of cost and fake-profile complaints.
Safety is held down by the absence of documented identity checks and the 2015 link to the Ashley Madison attack. Features and usability sit mid-range because the app is rated reasonably well but the documented feature set is basic.

How This Review Was Researched
This review is built from documents, not use of the service. In October 2026 the Cougar Life terms and privacy policy, the US App Store listing, Trustpilot and the DatingScout review were checked, along with FTC and 2015 press coverage.
The homepage and help center blocked automated access, so prices on the web come from third-party reports and are labelled as such. An official Android listing could not be confirmed.
No account was created, no credits or membership were bought and the platform was not used. Sub-scores therefore rest on documented features and third-party consensus, which means lower confidence than a tested review.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is a real, operating service run by Cougar Life Inc. and CL Media Inc. of Toronto, but trust signals are mixed. Trustpilot shows 2.2 of 5 from 14 reviews, mostly about fake profiles, and the terms say no background checks are performed.
Both. The terms describe credit packages and subscriptions, and the US App Store lists credit packs and monthly and quarterly memberships. Credits or a membership are needed to start conversations in some jurisdictions.
On the US App Store, credit packs run $13.99 to $22.99, a monthly membership is $49.99 and a quarterly one is $99.99 (checked Oct 2026). Reported web prices are $29.99 for 100 credits up to $149.99 for 1,000.
The company's App Store text says women can start conversations at no charge. The terms do not spell out a gender rule, so confirm at sign-up.
Within 14 days of purchase you can cancel and receive a pro-rated refund, with credits already used deducted. After that, purchases are non-refundable except where the company breached the terms (terms of 27 August 2025).
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date; credits renew only if you opted in. Full deletion removes most personal data within 48 hours, with some records kept up to six months.
It says it does not sell or rent personal data and offers optional two-factor login. It also uses analytics and ad tools, collects location data and performs no background checks.
Press in 2015 reported Cougar Life data as compromised in the Ashley Madison attack, which DatingScout disputes.
In 2015 both were reported as owned by the same parent. DatingScout lists Ruby Life Inc., which operates Ashley Madison, as the current operator, but Cougar Life's own terms name Cougar Life Inc. and CL Media Inc. only, so treat current ownership as reported.
For sugar dating, see Seeking; for affair-oriented dating, Ashley Madison; for casual adult dating, AdultFriendFinder. None are age-gap specific, so Cougar Life remains the niche option despite its cost.
Bottom Line
Cougar Life scores 5.7/10 (average). It's best for: older women and younger men who want age-gap dating and accept paying per message.
