Quick Verdict

Good

Doublelist is a classifieds board in the old Craigslist Personals style, run by Interlaced Social LLC. It suits adults who want plain local ads and are happy to screen replies themselves.

Its biggest weakness is money: the old claim of a free board with optional boosts no longer holds, because auto-renewing memberships up to a $149 lifetime plan exist, refunds are not given, and App Store reviewers describe the iOS app as heavily paywalled.

The terms say the service does not verify identity, and App Store reviewers report many scammers. Treat it as a free-to-try board, not a safe or fully free one, and read the refund terms before paying.

Doublelist is a location-based classifieds site for casual dating, run by Interlaced Social LLC of San Francisco. It follows the text-ad format Craigslist dropped in 2018, and it now also has an iOS app and paid memberships.

This Doublelist review is research-based and rates it 6.0 out of 10. The decisive caveat is that its terms say it does not verify users' identity, and its paid plans are non-refundable.

Doublelist Review Summary

What we scoreScoreWhy this score
Features5.8Text ads, private messaging and an iOS app are documented; no profiles, matching or verification features are documented (guidelines, App Store).
Pricing6.0Free to join, but auto-renewing plans to $149, non-refundable prepaid time and reported paywalls offset the free tier (refund policy, App Store).
Usability6.5Plain format and an iOS app exist; reviewers report freezing and paywalled basics, and interface quality is unverified from documents alone.
Safety5.5Terms say identity is not verified and reviewers report scams; written zero-tolerance policies and legal-process cooperation partly offset this (terms, guidelines, App Store).
Content6.0Rules on escorting, minors and personal details are documented; ad quality and local volume are not published and reviewers cite spam.

What Doublelist Is and Where It Came From

Doublelist is a classifieds board where adults post short personal ads by city and category and reply through the site. Its own app listing says it was inspired by Craigslist personals, with location-based browsing and private messaging.

Craigslist took its personals section offline in 2018. Its notice cited the federal FOSTA bill (HR 1865) and said any tool or service can be misused, so the company would not risk its other services.

Doublelist is not part of Craigslist. It is a separate service owned by the company named above, and its rules explicitly ban escorting and prostitution.

What It Really Costs

The earlier version of this review described Doublelist as free with cheap one-off boosts. That is out of date. The refund page describes recurring charges that can renew monthly until you cancel, and the App Store listing sells subscriptions.

The US App Store lists in-app purchases from about $4 for a Super Message up to a $149 lifetime subscription. Starter is shown at $5 and Ultimate at $10.

Plan lengths and what each tier unlocks are not spelled out in the pages we could read.

App Store reviewers say age filters, photo viewing and some filters sit behind payment, and that the iOS app can require payment to get in. These are reviewer reports, not an official feature list.

Doublelist pricing: free to join, Starter about $5, Ultimate about $10, Lifetime $149 per the App Store listing

Refunds and Cancelling

The refund policy states: "We do not provide refunds for any amounts prepaid by you and you will not receive any refund for any unused days." It says you can cancel from the account Settings page and that cancellation does not undo charges already applied.

The terms add that a subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Apple-billed subscriptions are managed through your Apple account.

How Posting and Replying Work

You choose a city, then browse or post in a category set by who is seeking whom. Replies go through the site's private messaging, and the guidelines forbid putting addresses, phone numbers or social handles in a post.

The guidelines also set posting limits: one account per person and a cap of two to three posts a day, with excess posting leading to termination. Non-local listings placed in a local section are rejected.

The rules ban selling merchandise or subscriptions in posts, which matches the cam and subscription-redirect pattern described below. The guidelines also say BDSM expressions must avoid degrading language, and ban incest roleplay and anything alluding to minors.

Verification and Moderation

The terms are blunt: the service "does not verify the information provided by users with respect to users' identity, health, physical condition, or otherwise." Users only represent that they are 18 or older.

The anti-trafficking policy says all users confirm they are 18 or older at registration, with phone or email verification to prevent misuse.

It describes automated scanning (keywords and image hashing) plus human review, and says evidence is kept at least seven years and valid legal process is answered on an expedited basis.

The terms allow the operator to remove or reformat any post without notice and to ban accounts at any time. The guidelines claim fewer than 1% of posts are flagged, which is the operator's own figure and not independently checked.

Photo or ID verification of users is not documented in the pages we read.

Scams to Watch For

Verified identity is not part of the model, so screening falls on you. App Store reviewers describe "mostly spam and scammers" and one claims most women's posts are scams. These are individual reviews, not measured rates.

Common patterns (reported by users; general guidance, Oct 2026)
PatternHow it worksSafer response
Fake verification linkA reply asks you to verify age on another site that takes card detailsNever enter card details to prove you are real
Cam or subscription redirectA flirty reply pushes you to a paid siteTreat it as an ad; report it
Template bot repliesInstant, generic replies with off-site linksIgnore and flag
Rush off-platformPressure to move to text or another app at onceKeep early chat on the site

Report abuse through the help center's request form. If you meet anyone, use a public place and tell a friend. The help center also lists a content-removal and complaints procedure.

App, Privacy and Data

The official iOS app is listed by Interlaced Social LLC with an 18+ rating and a 4.6 average from about 2.8K ratings as of Oct 2026. Reviewer complaints cover paywalls, freezing when loading photos, and spam.

The App Store privacy labels list identifiers and usage data used to track across apps, with device IDs and advertising data linked to the user. We found no Doublelist app in Google Play search results, so Android users use the website.

The privacy policy says it collects name, email, phone and address where provided, plus IP address and device details.

It says it uses Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics, supports interest-based advertising with opt-outs, and does not share personal data with third parties for their direct marketing.

The terms say deletion requests enter a queue and accounts are permanently deleted after six months if not reactivated. The privacy policy says some data may be kept for transactions, security and legal reasons.

Doublelist research-based scores: features 5.8, pricing 6.0, usability 6.5, safety 5.5, content 6.0, overall 6.0

How This Review Was Researched

This review rests on documents checked in October 2026: the operator's terms of use, refund policy, privacy policy, community guidelines, anti-trafficking policy, help center, the App Store listing, and Craigslist's FOSTA notice.

No account was created, no subscription was bought, and the site and app were assessed from documents only. The main site returned an access error to our fetch, so free-versus-paid detail on the web comes from the policies and from App Store reviewers.

Quality sub-scores therefore rest on documented features and third-party consensus and carry lower confidence.

Doublelist Versus Other Options

Doublelist is closest to plain classifieds. Profile-based apps cost more but give you photos and a larger feature set.

  • Sniffies: map-based, web-first platform for men, with a free tier plus a subscription (compare).
  • Grindr: location-grid app with a free ad-supported tier and paid XTRA and Unlimited plans (compare).
  • Feeld: free tier plus one paid plan, Majestic, with iOS and Android apps.
