Promptchan AI Review 2026: Uncensored Image Tools, Pro-Tier Video, and Gems-Metered Costs

Promptchan AI is built around 18+ image generation, but describing it as a pure image tool is now out of date.

Alongside text-to-image in anime and photorealistic styles, it generates short NSFW video on its top tier and runs an "AI Girlfriend" chat mode with voice messages and calls.

Several comparison write-ups still call it "image-focused, with no real chat or video" — that is wrong as of 2026.

The interface is still generator-first — a prompt box, a style selector and a results gallery — rather than a chat window with pictures bolted on, which is how most companion apps work.

Output falls into two broad families, anime/illustrated and photorealistic, with sub-styles (Realistic, Hyperreal, Anime, plus Asian, Furry and cinematic modes) and quality settings. Promptchan is purpose-built for adult content and applies far lighter filtering than mainstream generators, which is the main reason people choose it.

The operator named in Promptchan's terms and privacy policy is VisionAI Labs Limited, registered at The Black Church, St. Mary's Place, Dublin, Ireland, with Irish governing law.

Its iOS apps, however, are published under a different name on the App Store — "AI Research Group Limited" — a discrepancy the company does not explain, though both are tied to the same service.

No founder is publicly named and no official founding date is published; the service has operated since around 2023. That thin corporate transparency is worth knowing for a tool you may upload reference images to.

What still sets Promptchan apart from most 18+ generators is its editing toolkit — it behaves more like an iterative editor than a one-shot slot machine:

• Multiple styles: anime/illustrated and photorealistic modes, each with sub-styles and quality settings that trade speed and Gem cost against detail.
• Inpainting and Tweak: the "Edit" mode lets you mask and regenerate one region — fix the hands, change an outfit, adjust a detail — instead of re-rolling the whole image, and Tweak nudges an existing result.

Promptchan is freemium with a Gems credit meter. Gems are spent per action, and higher plans include more of them; the top Pro tier also makes standard "Casual" generations effectively unlimited.

The free tier gives a small daily Gem allowance — reviewers estimate roughly 10–30 Gems a day, though Promptchan does not publish the figure — plus chat and the ability to clone public creations, with watermarked, lower-quality output.

It is enough to sample the tool, not to work with.

Two things make the real cost hard to pin down. First, Promptchan's own pricing page returns a 404; plans appear only in an in-app modal, and the per-action Gem cost is not published, so you cannot budget precisely before paying.

Independent reviewers report that an image costs roughly 1–4 Gems depending on quality, a voice message about 1 and a voice call about 2, and a video far more — around 20 to 28 Gems a clip.

Second, list prices sit behind rotating promotions that change by visit: a site-wide 20% promo in August 2026 cut Plus to about $11.99, with deeper offers reported as low as roughly $5.99.

The figures above are the list prices agreed across independent reviews (Promptchan's own pricing page was unreachable when checked in October 2026); the Gem allowances of 100 / 400 / 800 are consistent across sources.

Annual billing could not be confirmed — one detailed review states Promptchan is monthly-only. Video, voice calls and custom-character creation are Pro-only.

The entry price is reasonable for the category, but confirm the current promo, Gem allowance and renewal rate in the app before paying, because the headline you see may not be the rate you keep.

On paper, Promptchan's content-moderation policy draws the hard lines correctly.

It prohibits CSAM — including AI-generated — non-consensual deepfake or intimate imagery, bestiality, and extreme or graphic violence, and enforces this with automated AI moderation, anonymous community flagging and a human review team, aiming to respond to valid removal requests within 48 hours. Those are the right rules to have.

The gap is between policy and practice on real-person likeness. The policy touches likeness only through its non-consensual-deepfake ban; there is no dedicated restriction on reference images of real people.

An independent editorial review (tooldirectory.ai, August 2026) rated Promptchan 3.3 out of 5 and warned that its "minimal likeness restrictions create real non-consensual imagery risk" — the kind of permissiveness mainstream tools block. That is the central, legitimate criticism to carry.

For wider context, and not a claim about Promptchan specifically, the sector is under scrutiny: in 2024 the San Francisco City Attorney filed a first-of-its-kind suit against 16 unnamed "nudify" sites, and Promptchan is not among those named.

Never use any generator for a real person's likeness.

Privacy is the other soft spot.

Promptchan's privacy policy keeps personal data "as long as necessary," an analytics visitor identifier for 13 months and some cookies for 90 days, and it uses Google Analytics and Google Ads, which it says "may involve sharing data with Google" (while stating it does not share your email for others' marketing).

Crucially, it does not substantiate at-rest encryption of stored content — it says only that the internet "is not a fully secure environment" and that it cannot guarantee data is not intercepted — so the "securely encrypted / private" marketing language is not backed up in the policy.

There is no two-factor authentication, age-gating is 18+ self-attestation with no verification, and the policy does not state whether your prompts or chats train its models. No data breach is on record.
