BDSM.com Review 2026: A Free Tier, Alt.com's Platform and a Parent Breach

What BDSM.com shares with Alt.com, why its free tier still works, and the 2016 breach at parent FriendFinder Networks to weigh.

Quick Verdict

Good

BDSM.com is a web-only BDSM personals site run by Magnolia Blossom Inc. on the same FriendFinder Networks platform as Alt.com, with the same terms, help text and reported prices.

It suits adults who want a paid, dating-style kink directory and can live with a dated web interface. It is a weak pick for anyone wanting a free community, an app, or ID-verified members.

Its biggest strength is a usable free tier; its biggest weaknesses are non-refundable auto-renewing plans and its parent's breach record. Treat it and Alt.com as one product, not two options.

BDSM.com is a web-only BDSM personals site operated by Magnolia Blossom Inc., part of the FriendFinder Networks family. This BDSM.com review is research-based and covers what the site documents and what third parties report.

It runs on the same platform as Alt.com, with the same terms and help text. The key caveat is that paid plans auto-renew and are non-refundable in most cases, and the prices come from a third party (reported).

Verdict in one sentence: a usable free tier and a clear niche, held back by a dated interface, no ID verification and a parent company with a serious breach record.

BDSM.com Review Summary

What we scoreScoreWhy this score
Features6.5Documented free chat/IM plus paid tiers and add-ons; shares a platform with Alt.com, so little that is unique (help center, third-party listing).
Pricing5.5Reported $19.95-$29.95 monthly with non-refundable auto-renewal; price figures are third-party and unconfirmed on the upgrade page.
Usability5.5Web only with no official app found; interface rests on third-party descriptions, so confidence is lower.
Safety5.5No ID check or background screening documented; parent's 2016 breach (412M accounts, BDSM.com not named) and beta AI clauses lower confidence.
Content6.5Claimed 532,315 active members and about 520,000 listed by DatingScout; focused kink niche, but local density is unknown.

One Platform, Two Domains: BDSM.com and Alt.com

The most useful thing to know is that BDSM.com is not an independent rival to Alt.com. Its terms are written as a binding agreement with Magnolia Blossom Inc., and the terms text and help pages match those on Alt.com.

The BDSM.com help center also says mail-in payments go to "FriendFinder Networks Inc., Attn: BDSM.com team". That ties it to the wider FriendFinder family.

What differs is branding and domain. BDSM.com carries the more literal, search-friendly name, while Alt.com is the older "alternative lifestyles" brand. Reported prices are identical. See our Alt.com review for the sibling site.

One practical effect is that paying for both makes little sense. Features, rules and billing are shared, so the choice usually comes down to which name you prefer.

What the "532,315 Active Members" Claim Is Worth

The BDSM.com home page says "Over 532,315 Active Members". That is a company claim, and we could not check it independently.

The site does not say how it defines "active", over what period, or how many accounts are paid. A figure like this can include accounts that logged in once.

A third-party reviewer, DatingScout, lists about 520,000 members as of September 2026. It describes a user base mainly from the United States, France and the United Kingdom. That is a member count, not proof of activity near you.

Both numbers are worldwide. For a kink site, local density matters far more than the global total, and neither source breaks it down by city. The free tier is the practical way to judge local numbers before paying.

What Free Members Get and What the Plans Cost

The help center says "Standard membership is free" and that members "can chat, send instant messages, and browse through our worldwide database of profiles". That is a more generous free tier than a simple browse-only preview.

The plan list below comes from DatingScout (updated 20 Sept 2026), because the upgrade page is not visible to logged-out visitors.

Plan1 month3 months12 months
Silver$19.95$35.97 (about $11.99/mo)$99.97 (about $8.33/mo)
Gold$29.95$59.97 (about $19.99/mo)$149.97 (about $12.50/mo)

Tokens, movies and profile highlights are sold separately (reported). Longer plans cut the monthly rate but are paid up front.

The terms say subscriptions automatically renew for the same length unless you turn auto-renewal off in billing settings. They also state that purchases are final and non-refundable unless required by law.

Residents of some US states have a short statutory cancellation window, listed in the terms.

Estimated Cost Examples

  • Trying it for a month on Gold: $29.95 (est., reported price).
  • A year of Silver: $99.97 up front (est.), about $8.33 a month.
  • A year of Gold: $149.97 up front (est.), about $12.50 a month.
BDSM.com reported pricing: free Standard tier, Silver from $19.95 a month, Gold from $29.95 a month, longer plans cheaper per month

Privacy, Verification and the Parent Company's Record

Sign-up and verification are light. We found no ID check documented, and the terms require users to be at least 18 and of legal age where they live.

The site's footer says it does not run criminal background screening of members. Treat profiles as unverified and meet in public places.

On record, two breaches belong to the family. In May 2015, AdultFriendFinder lost about 3.9 million records (Have I Been Pwned).

In October 2016, FriendFinder Networks had a network breach reported at 412 million accounts across several of its sites (TechCrunch, Nov 2016). BDSM.com is not named in that list, so we do not say BDSM.com itself was breached.

The terms also include beta "AI Features" clauses, shared with Alt.com. They warn that beta features may have limited security and privacy measures.

For a kink profile, caution is sensible: use a dedicated email, a unique password and no identifying photos. Check the privacy policy before sharing sensitive details.

Who BDSM.com Suits, and What Else to Consider

BDSM.com suits adults who want a personals-style site focused on kink and are fine paying for a web-only service. It is less suited to people who want a free community, a mobile app or verified members.

If you want a free kink community rather than a dating directory, FetLife is a different model: a social network with groups and events. Our BDSM.com vs FetLife comparison covers that trade-off.

For a swipe-style mobile app, KinkD is app-only. For the same platform under another name, see FetLife vs Alt.com. Broader lists are in best BDSM dating apps and best BDSM sites.

How This Review Was Researched

This review is based on documents and third-party reporting checked in October 2026. We read the BDSM.com home page, terms of use and help center, searched the App Store for an official app, and compared DatingScout's pricing and member figures.

We also checked breach reporting from TechCrunch and Have I Been Pwned. No account was created, no subscription was bought and the service was not used.

The sub-scores therefore rest on documented features and third-party consensus, which means lower confidence than a review based on direct use. Prices are labelled as reported because the upgrade page is not visible to logged-out visitors.
