What Alt.com's paid BDSM personals cost, why it runs no ID checks, and the FriendFinder breach history behind it.

Quick Verdict
Good
Alt.com is a long-running, web-only kink personals site that costs a reported $19.95 to $29.95 a month and has no ID verification. It suits adults who want a paid BDSM-focused directory and can browse their own area before paying.
It is a weaker fit for anyone who wants an app, verified members or a refund on unused time. Its biggest strength is kink-specific profiles and a free chat tier.
Its biggest weakness is the FriendFinder record and thin published detail on safety.

Alt.com is a web-only BDSM and alt-lifestyle personals site. It is legally operated by Magnolia Blossom Inc. and belongs to the FriendFinder Networks group, which also runs AdultFriendFinder and BDSM.com. This Alt.com review is based on documents and third-party reports, not an account.
The free Standard membership can chat, send instant messages and browse profiles. Emailing other members needs a paid plan (reported). Its parent had a large network breach in 2016, but Alt.com was not named among the affected sites.
Verdict: a dated but functioning kink dating site for people who want paid access and accept that members are not ID-checked.

Alt.com Review Summary
| What we score | Score | Why this score |
|---|---|---|
| Features | 6.8 | Kink-focused profiles, chat, magazine and community features are documented in help pages; depth by tier is not published (help centre, terms). |
| Pricing | 5.5 | Reported $19.95–$29.95 a month, login-gated, auto-renewing and non-refundable; long plans lower the monthly rate (DatingScout, Sept 2026; terms). |
| Usability | 5.5 | Web-only with no official app and no way to see prices before signing in; interface quality is not independently measured, so the score is held near the middle. |
| Safety | 5.5 | No ID or background checks and trackers on guest pages; the 2016 breach is the parent's and Alt.com was not named, so it is weighed but not treated as Alt.com's own (terms, help, TechCrunch). |
| Content | 6.8 | Niche-specific audience and magazine are documented; member numbers are unverified, and no independent activity data was found. |

What Alt.com Is and Who Runs It
Alt.com presents itself as a personals site for BDSM, fetish and alt-lifestyle members. The footer and terms name Magnolia Blossom Inc. of Mountain View, California as the US operator.
The company's own help page says mail-in payments go to FriendFinder Networks Inc., and the parent lists Alt.com among its sites. That makes it a sibling of AdultFriendFinder and BDSM.com.
Alt.com and BDSM.com share terms, help text and reported prices. Treat them as one platform with two skins, not as independent competitors.
There is no official app. A search of the App Store finds only an unrelated sports-commentary app with a similar name, so the site is used through a browser.
What Alt.com Costs and What the Free Tier Does
The official help page says Standard membership is free and that Standard members can "chat, send instant messages, and browse" profiles. That corrects the common claim that the free tier is browse-only.
Emailing other members is reported to need a paid plan. Treat that as reported, because the upgrade page is login-gated.
Prices below come from DatingScout (updated 20 Sept 2026), not from the checkout. They may differ for you.
| Plan | 1 month | 3 months | 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver (reported) | $19.95 | $35.97 | $99.97 |
| Gold (reported) | $29.95 | $59.97 (about $19.99/mo) | $149.97 (about $12.50/mo) |
The same source lists paid add-ons such as Standard Contacts and Highlight listings. It does not say what each plan unlocks beyond the Gold-and-Silver split, so confirm in the logged-in upgrade screen before paying.
Older write-ups quote Gold at $24.95 a month. No current source supports that figure.
Auto-Renewal, Refunds and Cancelling
The terms (last updated 5 Sept 2024) say paid subscriptions renew at the same length. Credits are non-refundable.
They also say "All purchases are final and non-refundable unless required by law". Buyers in California and Colorado get a three-business-day cancellation right.
Disputes go to binding arbitration under Florida law, with Palm Beach County courts named. Mail-in payments are documented in the help centre, but the card descriptor on a statement is not published, so check your own statement.
A longer plan therefore locks in money you cannot get back if you stop using the site. Note the renewal date before buying.
Breaches, Regulators and the FriendFinder Record
Two separate incidents are often merged. In May 2015, AdultFriendFinder lost about 3.9 million records, per Have I Been Pwned.
In October 2016 (reported 13 Nov 2016), a FriendFinder Networks network breach exposed about 412 million accounts. TechCrunch lists AdultFriendFinder, Cams.com, Penthouse.com, Stripshow and iCams. Alt.com and BDSM.com were not named.
That breach also exposed passwords stored in plaintext or as SHA-1 hashes. It is the parent's record, and it is fair context for a site on the same corporate platform. It is not evidence that Alt.com data was taken.
In 2007 the AdultFriendFinder operator settled an FTC case over explicit pop-up ads shown to unwitting consumers. No regulator action naming Alt.com itself was found.
Use a throwaway email and a unique password, and assume any profile text could one day leak.
Verification, Safety and Privacy
The help centre says Alt.com "only requires a valid email address" and does not run criminal background screening. No photo or ID check is documented, so a profile is whatever its owner types.
FriendFinder says it does not sell data to advertisers and does not track where members go online. Alt.com's guest pages nonetheless load Google Tag Manager and a Meta (Facebook) pixel, according to the page source checked in Oct 2026.
The terms now include clauses on beta AI features such as AI friends, image generation and chatbots. The documents do not say which of these are live, so check settings if you open an account.
For safer meetups, use the platform's messaging first, meet in public, tell a friend, and treat sudden pushes to external cam or payment sites as a warning sign.
How Alt.com Compares With FetLife, KinkD and BDSM.com
Different tools solve different problems. FetLife is a large free kink social network rather than a dating site, with optional paid support.
KinkD is a mobile-only swipe-style app with one new private chat a day on the free tier. Its store listing shows VIP purchases of $12.99, $33.99 and $53.99.
BDSM.com runs on the same FriendFinder platform with the same terms and reported prices, so paying for both adds little.

Who Alt.com Suits and Who Should Skip It
Alt.com fits adults who want a paid, kink-specific personals directory and are comfortable on a desktop or mobile browser. Browsing your own area first costs nothing and shows how many members are active near you.
Any membership figure on the homepage is the company's own and unaudited. Member density in your town is the thing to check.
It is a poor fit if you want an app, verified members or a refund policy that covers unused time. Anyone uneasy about the FriendFinder breach history, or about trackers on guest pages, should look elsewhere.
How This Review Was Researched
This review rests on documents checked in October 2026: Alt.com's footer, terms of use and help centre, the FriendFinder Networks site and history page, the App Store search API, and page source for trackers.
Breach and regulator facts come from TechCrunch, Have I Been Pwned and the FTC. Reported prices come from DatingScout, because the upgrade page is login-gated.
No account was created, no subscription bought and the service was never used. The sub-scores therefore rest on documented features and third-party reports, and carry lower confidence than a tested review would.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, it is a live site operated by Magnolia Blossom Inc. and part of FriendFinder Networks, with published terms and a US address. Legit does not mean verified: members only need a valid email, so profiles are unchecked.
Joining is free. The official help page says Standard members can chat, send instant messages and browse profiles. Emailing other members is reported to need a paid plan.
Reported prices (DatingScout, Sept 2026) are Silver at $19.95 for 1 month and Gold at $29.95 for 1 month, $59.97 for 3 months or $149.97 for 12 months. The upgrade page is login-gated, so confirm the price before paying.
Plans auto-renew at the same length and the terms call purchases final and non-refundable unless law requires. California and Colorado buyers have a three-business-day cancellation right. Check the terms for the cancellation steps before buying.
No Alt.com-specific breach was found. Its parent, FriendFinder Networks, had a network breach reported in November 2016 covering about 412 million accounts across other sites; Alt.com was not named. A separate 2015 breach affected AdultFriendFinder.
No official app was found in the App Store in Oct 2026. Alt.com is used in a browser, and apps with similar names are unrelated.
Members must be 18 or the age of majority where they live. The help page says only a valid email is required and that no criminal background screening is done. No ID check is documented.
For free community and events, FetLife is the usual pick. For a mobile swipe-style app, KinkD. BDSM.com is the same platform, so it is not a real alternative.
Bottom Line
Alt.com scores 6.0/10 (good). It's best for: adults who want a paid, web-only kink personals site and will keep their details private.
